Softball splits with win over Geneva, loss to #4 Roanoke

The Muskingum University softball team is still looking to sting together some consecutive wins after the third day of split games in Florida.

The win over Geneva this morning put the Muskies a 3-2, then the loss to Roanoke put Muskingum back to .500 and an even 3-3.

Morgan Yackey took the win for the Muskies in game one, which the ladies prevailed over Geneva 8-4.

Yackey pitched 4.1 innings surrendering three earned runs and striking out five hitters.

Brittany Folk pitched 2 innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Rachel Bannister was replaced after walking four hitters in 0.2 innings.

Courtney Allen, Jenilee Accurso and Jaclynn Hess led the Muskies with 2 RBIs each. Apryl Patterson and Jessica Saporito contributed one RBI each.

The Muskie offense nearly doubled-up Geneva in the hits column, pounding out 17 hits to Geneva?s nine.

In game two, #4 Roanoke prevailed over the Muskies late to take the 7-5 win.

Brittany Folk was handed the loss after pitching 2 innings and allowing two runs, one earned.

Sarah Browning pitched the other 5 innings, allowing five runs on as many hits.

Slugger Jaclynn Hess once again led the Muskies on offense, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Hess began her day at the plate with a two-run home run scoring Kayley Bevard, tying the game at 2.

The Muskies held a 5-4 lead in the 5th inning, but Roanoke put up 3 runs in the final two innings to down the Muskies 7-5.

The ladies will be back in action tomorrow vs. Alvernia at 3 p.m. That game can be heard on the Muskingum University Athletics page.
