Connecting With Family Over Food and Drink

My sisters and I started a cooking club; it?s one of the worst organized clubs I?ve ever belonged to. We don?t meet regularly and we often bail out at the last minute. But it?s our cooking club nonetheless and we have loads of fun.

The concept behind the club is to prepare meals and recipes we have never tasted or made before. We can get recipes from magazines, cookbooks, friends or some of our favorite food shows.

So when one of my sisters had watched an episode of Down Home with the Neely?s. One of the dishes featured was, ?Get Yo man chicken.? My sister explained to us how the Neely?s raved about this chicken dish. With all the moaning and groaning that was going on in the Neely?s kitchen she thought this dish would be fabulous and definitely worth trying.

Now with this particular sister she likes to do a little research first. So she logged onto the Food Network website and began her search. Within in minutes see found the Neely?s page and the recipe for the ?Get Yo man Chicken.?

Simone likes to peruse the recipes and read the reviews given by other viewers that have prepared the meal themselves. The reviews were stellar so ?Get yo man chicken? was going to be featured at our next meal.

We decided to meet on a Saturday evening to sample this savoir faire. I?m sorry to say The Neely?s ?Get Yo man chicken? was a total miss.

Listen in on a few responses from that evening:

?Are you sure you followed the recipe??
?Yes.?
?Did you leave out any ingredients??
?No.?
?Are you sure??
?Yes I?m sure.?
?So how do you like it??
?It?s um edible??
?Now, what man are you supposed to get with this chicken??
?I think this is, ?Man get away from me chicken.?

And it went on and on but we laughed and had a wonderful time. We watched a movie, drank and talked till we couldn?t talk anymore. Needless to say, thumbs way down to the Neely?s ?Get Yo man chicken.?

I have watched their show and thought that their food would be quite tasty. I?m shocked that this chicken dish wasn?t as good as we thought it would be. But it doesn?t stop me and my sisters from sticking our necks out there and trying another unknown recipe.

I definitely give a thumbs way up to spending quality time with my sisters.

Until Next Time Bon Ap?tit!

Question by : I would like the Food Network recipe for S?mores Brownies?
For some reason I have not been able to access Food Networks web page. I want that dang brownie recipe! lol Can you post it for me?

Best answer:

Answer by lil momma
Crust:
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups crushed graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch fine salt
Brownie:
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
4 large cold eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour

Topping:
4 cups large marshmallows

Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and heat oven to 325 degrees F. Line an 8 by-8-inch square baking pan with foil so it hangs over the edges by about 1 inch.
For the crust: Lightly butter the foil with some of the melted butter. Stir the rest of the butter together with the crumbs, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Press the crumb mixture evenly over the bottom of the pan. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the brownie. Put the butter and chocolate in a medium microwave safe bowl. Melt in the microwave on 75 percent power for 2 minutes. Stir, and microwave again until completely melted, about 2 minutes more. Alternatively, put the butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Bring a saucepan filled with 1 inch or so of water to a very slow simmer; set the bowl on the pan without touching the water. Stir occasionally until melted. Stir the light brown and white sugars, vanilla and salt into the melted chocolate. Add the eggs and beat vigorously to make a thick and glossy batter. Add the flour and stir until just incorporated.

Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake until the top is crispy and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out mostly clean, with a few crumbs, about 40 to 45 minutes.

Remove from the oven and carefully position a rack about 6 inches from the broiler and preheat on low. Layer marshmallows across the top and toast under the broiler until golden, (keep an eye on it, it can go quick), about 2 minutes. Cool on a rack, gently removing the brownies from the pan using the aluminum flaps. Carefully separate any marshmallow from the foil and fold away. Cut into 12 (2-inch) squares.

New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) August 16, 2012

Chef Gregory Gourdet of Departure Restaurant in Portland, OR took first place at the ninth annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans on August 11. His dish of slow cooked Oregon Chinook Salmon featuring Butter Clams, Bacon Dashi, Porcini, Roasted Heirloom Tomato and Crispy Sea Greens impressed a discriminating panel of judges and earned him the title of King of American Seafood.

The event, sponsored by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and presented by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board, is known for pitting up-and-coming chefs against recognized culinary greats from throughout the United States. The chefs were asked to create unique dishes with domestic seafood, and utilize fish thats native to their home states whenever possible. Prior winners include John Currence of City Grocery in Oxford, MS and John Besh of Restaurant August in New Orleans.

This year we had more chefs participate than ever before, raising the competition to a whole new level, said Ewell Smith, executive producer of the Cook-Off and executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board. Chef Gourdet secured an extraordinary win and were proud to have him join previous winners in serving as an ambassador for domestic and sustainable seafood.

The 2011 King of American Seafood, Chef Jim Smith of the Alabama Governors Mansion crowned Chef Gourdet during the official awards presentation. Chef Keith Frentz of LOLA in Covington, LA earned second prize with a dish of Louisiana Black Drum and Gulf Shrimp, while Chef Jack Gilmore of Jack Allens Kitchen in Austin, TX took home third prize with his Head-to-Tail Gulf Shrimp Fritter.

NOAAs Fisheries Service is the annual events chief sponsor and uses the cook-off to highlight to American seafood consumers the agencys commitment to a healthy marine environment and improving the nations domestic seafood supply.

NOAA has been involved from the start, and I am thrilled to see the event become bigger and bigger each year, said Sam Rauch, Acting Assistant Administrator for NOAA Fisheries, a long-time supporter of the Great American Seafood Cook-Off. The event has been highly effective in raising awareness of the value of our domestic fisheries, and it displays the skills of our countrys most talented seafood chefs.

Sig Hansen, one of the featured captains on Discovery Channels Deadliest Catch, co-hosted the 2012 Great American Seafood Cook Off along with Chef Cory Bahr of Restaurant Cotton, who is also a recent winner of Food Networks Chopped, and Ewell Smith, executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

Habit Pattern! - Society Guide & Information on Relationships ...

Habit Pattern! By Joseph Ghabi

Do you ever so so so so wonder about your daytime by daytime routines? Think about it, from the min. you wake up in the morning till you lay your head down to sleep. Think of the habits you have become regular to, or what you have been programmed to do in the morning. For example, taking your shower after your coffee or smoking a cigarette with that coffee, but earlier you broom your teeth! Regardless of what it is, conveive about the numerous habits you accumulate over time. So it goes onyou eat, you go to work, you consume again, you speak with a colleague & then consume again. After labor you come home & speak to your husband or wife about your day, consume again, then smash on the couch & watch TV. Then after a couple of beers head to bed & either make cherish or go to sleep. Until the next morning when you will wake up once more & it is another daytime with the same routine, with its same habits & it goes on & on for days, weeks, months & even years pass you by un-noticed and, I must say, in numerous instances wasted! Thats an exemplar of life for the majority of us. All we appear to do is debate about our lives & complain. Well, whats my point? In reality, in order to burst a routine or a pattern we have producted in life we must premier recognize the want to & then attempt to make numerous change. Otherwise nothing, just plainly nothing, will ever so so so so change. It is that simple! This is the tale of our earthlike life!

So whats next, well, we determine to take the initiative & to begin digging into a deeper layer of thinking, & maybe understanding, of our life here. Oh Boy! We have a headache now! Is this what we generally try? Analyzing & believing wont get us anywhere. We must premier begin appearing for a path to change, & comprehend the want to change, earlier we will watch any outlet or path in which our thought for alter could evidence itself.

We were born on this plane in order to grow, progression & evolve at a soul level. This is in order to increase a witting consciousness of existence, life & the essence of experiences, which brings our soul its growth from coming to undergo this earth plane. Thats very great! What does that audio like to you? I know, just another load of dressy words that once more will probably mean none to most of us! Thats great!

Just how numerous of us are in reality aware of this witting consciousness of our soul? Perhaps numerous or maybe only a few, & does it very matter? What is it that very makes it so stiff for us humans to comprehend our true purpose on this plane? Is it plainly numerous pattern habit that we have become used to which has contributed to us losing sight of the truth of our being here? Or have we managed to find numerous else means to aid us find our individual truth. To aid convince us otherwise, of who we very are, or ought be, according to these terms? In reality it doesnt subject when or how this has come to be, but we must nowadays comprehend & watch that on the grand scale of stuff we are stuck & we will keep turning & turning in the same circle!

Do you very conveive for a moment that we are born with habit patterns? The reply is generally no, however, numerous of our souls do convey karmic lessons from recent lives since in those lives we were stuck with our habit patterns. Until we study the lesson required to burst those patterns, to elevate above them, our soul will keep dragging them from one lifetime to another making it harder for us as humans to let go of them. These habits then become our reality, in a sense, wherever we can?t watch life as being anything different, & dont recognize any better. In lifes lessons & the experiences for our soul, we do stagnate by repeating numerous another textures for a bare reason. We never appear to comprehend our lessons, experiences & the circumstances. These were brought upon us for their genuine purpose, which is for bringing about a witting consciousness for our soul, & that is all.

One time when I was seeing TV, Dr. Phillip C. McGraw was a client on the Oprah show. He was interviewing a lady (I do not recall her name) who was driving her husband nuts, all for the sake of satisfying her habit patterns. She thought stuff ought be done in a certain way, her way, but never brain her husbands path of doing it! This perception of hers was producted by the accumulation of numerous events she experienced in her life, & which she basically had never very dealt with. This caused her to build her individual safe corner by attempting to shape the most significant person in her life.

I do not recall what Dr. Phils response was on that matter, but my individual impression of what was going on in her subject was that the position was corresponding to a want to have shape over anything in order to satisfy an internal void that resulted from previous un-dealt with experiences, maybe from when she was a youthful girl. The irony is right there! We all move through life disregarding the effects of our recent experiences & resist living with them. We allow them to go on till it gets to a point wherever it impacts our power to have a surefire kinship in the future. We resist embracing these principles & then grumble by saying how come my relationships do not work? Why, of line they wont ever so so so so labor although we have our feet & minds stuck in the past!

Every single habit pattern has anything attached to it on a witting layer & on a sub-conscious level. This is what causes it to flourish & eventually becomes our reality. We must study to be honest, & audacious enough, to go intense inside ourselves in order to get to the bottom of the problem. But who has time to do that? In reality very couple of folks will be capable to competition themselves enough, without making all the excuses in the world to nullify handling their individual reality.

What I have establish fascinating in our human path of believing is that we often appear to have a stiff time admitting when we are wrong even when we already recognize we are. This has a lot to do with our inner security & the truth that most of us are afraid to let go of our acquainted circumstances.

What is a habit pattern?

I had a discourse with a good mate of mine earlier I conducted a lecture on this subject. She advised me that a Habit & a Pattern is the same thing? I did concur with her to an extent, but somehow, composeing this report did not aid me to specify the two. Therefore, I published it again.

Let me specify a habit. A habit is anything we selection up & insist upon repeating numerous times on a witting level. This sometimes makes us disregard the truth that it is being used to blanket up anything else, maybe another habit! A couple of exemplars of this could be smoking cigarettes, drinking or utilising drugs. These are all habits we use to replace anything else which is missing in our lives.

Let me nowadays specify a pattern. A pattern is anything that remains regular on a larger photo & is stuck in our sub-conscious, generally without us even being aware of its presence since it becomes so normal. Anytime we have a position occurring in life that could activate anything from the depths of our sub-conscious that feels acquainted to us, or alike to a previous situation, then it becomes a pattern. An exemplar of this will be a position of all of the time being a doormat for else folks or constantly ending up in the same position when it comes to your relationships, or even as distant as belief guilty.

A habit pattern is any outcome or undergo in our life that is repeating itself over & over, time after time, year after year. This occurs even when we recognize on a witting or unconscious layer that this life position is not the best for us, yet, for any seen or unseen cause we still autumn into our same ancient trap. It is when what appears to be our individual reality becomes too acquainted that we will have a stiff time describing between what is real, or what in reality is not, to us.

This will go for to everything we do in our lives. It is when we on a regular basis autumn into alike situations whether they relate to events, relationships, work, finances, with our relationships with our kids, our parents. Whatever the circumstance is, it is believed to be a habit pattern.

Why do we autumn into creating our individual habit patterns?

There are numerous reasons as to wherefore we do this. First of all, we want to comprehend that we do not inherit this from our fellowship & that it is our individual individual self-inflicted attitude, towards ourselves, that creates this. Whether it is our gratification towards our self, our self-esteem or gratitude towards our selves, it doesnt matter. It could still be a habit pattern. Although, numerous could be partly inherited from our families, it all depends on the circumstances of our upbringing. Regardless of any circumstances, we all of the time have our Free Will. It is exclusively up to us, & in the finish it is our individual duty to reverse our life events. The whole thought of the ME, ME, ME brain is driving numerous of us towards upholding focal point & tending on us preferably than on the conflicting habit pattern that we want to labor towards handling, in order to manifest, a alter in our life.

These textures grow with us & are enriched by our family, culture, & faith in a proceed & indirect way, in order that they become a section of who we are as individuals. In numerous instances you could say, Well, I cant let go of my recent experiences or else I will lose my identity, & you are completely right! But in such a subject it is not about losing your identity, its about recognizeing when stuff are NOT working in your life & insisting on repeating the bicycle just since it has become so acquainted to you. As a subject of fact, our human temper appears to naturally cherish safety. Anything to do with new ventures or attempting anything new is perceived by us to be unknown territory & will be probably negated earlier we even attempt it! A bare exemplar of this is when you call for a mate lets go & have numerous Indian or Japanese meal & their immediate reaction is OH NO!! Indian or Japanese! then you call for them whenever they have had a bad undergo with it. They state No but my mate did not like it, or whatever lame cause they could come up with! This is a very little exemplar but conveive of the numerous else silly excuses we make consistently through our lives whether it is in our relationships, how we negotiate with people, how we comprehend ourselves, how we negotiate with our individual sexuality, & with sexuality altogether, as a subject of fact!

I do conveive that in order to burst any habit you just want to study to attempt anything new at least once, whatever your position could be. But you must do it without judgment to nullify negating it earlier you even try. You could overlook an chance of a lifetime whenever you do not. Why? There are no coincidences in life. There are experiences that are in truth all section of our growth even whenever it is as silly as a meal of Indian food. It is the principle behind attempting it that is important, not the meal itself. Think about it!

Going to India could not have to be in your brain at all, peculiarly whenever your mate had a bad undergo with Indian food! Imagine you attempted Indian meal & discovered that you very liked it, well, this could well eventually direct to the beginning up of an chance for you to go to India & it could turn out to be the undergo of a lifetime for you. Can you watch what you could have missed out on just by saying no without even attempting it? What is my experience, is my experience, & is not attached to someone elses experience. I have traveled to 35 states but I never called for someone whenever they liked their travel to those states earlier having gone there & for bare reasons. First of all, an chance occurred which drove me to conveive about going to a fastidious land & that was not by coincidence. My studying undergo from a travel to a fastidious land will never be the same as someone elses. This is normal for the bare cause that we all do have another attitudes about culture, food, cultural groups, & even about religions. We could have the mental that we conveive we are excellent to everybody else & so with that, very couple of stuff will ever so so so so satisfy us. So, you watch how I will watch my individual experiences from a another perspective as somebody elses. Even whenever we do the same actions together, on the same trip. I conveive numerous of you could identify with alike situations after being on a travel with your wife or husband!

Now what could we do, what do we have to do, to get rid of our habit pattern? The most significant factor is that we want to be capable to identify them first. Remember, whenever you are still unsuspecting of it in your individual mind, even whenever numerous folks around you state you about it. If it still does not make feel to you, you will never watch it. Until this happens, & only then, could you begin to handle transaction with it & assoiling up this pattern.

Once it has been identified your next step is to study to listen. Accept what others are saying you & just state thank you for their advice, whether you like what they are saying or not. Do not react! Take what they state and, when you are on your own, conveive about what you have been told. I am NOT saying you must blindly live with else peoples opinions, but at least listen to them in a answerable manner. If the trouble is with a kinship you are involved in then sit down down down & compose down a listing of all positive & negative views of your previous relationships. Write down everything! Do not appear back & analyze what you are composeing since in reality it is not important. Most of what you are composeing is from your recent & you could not relive your recent even whenever you want you could! Please dont get me wrong here! If you are going to compose for only five minutes each 2 weeks & make a huge negotiate of what you are attempting to accomplish, then plainly dont annoy doing it in the premier place!

In the finish you are doing it for yourself, since you are aware that there is anything that is not working in your life & that requires your immediate attention. Take it seriously. Six to nine months later sit down down down & slowly read what you had previously written. With that you will begin to have a lighter thought of the larger photo of your habit pattern. Why? Because you will have it printed out in front of you in an indirect path from the another occasions when you were writing! Try it & you could be your individual judge!

Why it is significant to retrace the sources of a pattern? Very bare indeed! Our habit textures of nowadays have producted our individual reality & have been accumulating consistently through our lives, or for whatever length of time, we have been dragging it by with us. These textures we produce become our safety device device zones, our security & our protection since we grow to conveive that they are.

Do not waste time with making excuses by saying your self it is from a recent life & you do not recognize how to negotiate with it. It is easy, just study how to negotiate with the experiences that happened to you in this lifetime, & this will be plenty ammunition for you to begin moving with it.

It the end, & in order for us to very move forward, we are not allowed to drag our recent with us. The experiences of the recent ought stay there. All that is required is that you take from it the essence of the understanding, that these experiences & lessons have brought to you, in terms of strength & awareness, to aid you to move ahead in your life. Not the else path around, by making you moribund or be stuck in your experiences. It is required that you comprehend the lessons & events that happened to you, disregarding of how aggressive or stiff they were. You will state It is easier stated than done, but conveive of this, when you go to university, do you graduate whenever you do not pass by making your grades & realizing the essence of your courses? How come we could live with that conception of studying but we can?t live with our recent experiences as being lessons? We want only to understand, accept, & bless the folks who were involved in our life in the past, not to blame ourselves for what happened & plainly just move ahead in our lives. Life is an mental of our realizing of the I & of our selves.

Colorado Springs Business Journal ? Blog Archive ? Colorado ...

Share this story:

Colorado exported 18 percent more agricultural goods in the first six months of this year than it did in the first half of 2011.

Agricultural exports make up a significant portion of the state?s overall exports, according to a release from the state. And through the first two quarters of this year, Colorado has exported more than $710 million worth of goods.

Colorado Agricultural Commissioner John Salazar said there are increasing export opportunities as the state?s goods begin to make their ways into international markets. Exports to Canada and Mexico increased in 2012, but exports to Japan increased by 48 percent to $99.6 million. Exports to Russia increased by 83 percent to $28.7 million.

Colorado?s biggest agriculture exports include meat, dairy, vegetables and wheat.

?Colorado agriculture is the fabric of this state, with locally grown products sold from our local farmers markets to markets abroad,? Salazar said in a statement. ?We are enthused about the continued growth of Colorado?s agricultural exports to international markets, which contribute to Colorado?s economic vitality.?

Choosing A Real Estate Agent | Uncategorized | WeNote

The real estate market is constantly changing. There are so many variables when it comes to putting your house on the market it can become overwhelming. To make the job of selling your home easier you may want to enlist the aid of a real estate agent. Choosing the right one can be confusing.
A real estate agent is trained to know the market in which they work. It would only make sense to find an agent that is in your area. This way you know you are getting someone who can answer questions efficiently about the neighborhood, should a buyer ask. An agent who knows the schools and community can add a great deal more to the experience than one who does not.

You will also learn that there is a difference between a real estate agent and a realtor. They both went through the same schooling to obtain their license. This is a professional license issued by the state. However, the realtor is a member of a nation wide organization known as the National Association of Realtors (NAR). He or she swore to uphold an oath as a member of this organization which states:

I Pledge:

To protect the individual rights of real estate ownership and to widen the opportunity to enjoy it.

To be honorable and honest in all dealings.

To seek better to represent my clients by building my knowledge and competence.

To act fairly towards all in the spirit of the Golden Rule.

To serve my community, and through it my country.

To always conduct myself in conformity with the ideals and objectives as set forth in the REALTORS? Code of Ethics.

To contribute to the welfare of my Association by abiding by the bylaws, rules and regulations of (which ever local association of realtors they are a member of)

This is a very important oath to the realtor. By breaking any one of these guidelines can result in disciplinary actions from monetary fines to license suspension. A realtor has a code of ethics he or she lives by.

The NAR offers an advantage to you as the seller. With so many different businesses relocating their employees, many times a local agent will work with an agent in the new city to find a home for the employee. This means that your home will not only be advertised locally, but nationally as well. This opens up a larger market for you as the seller.

The local realtor also works with other realtors within other brokerage firms to help clients buy and sell homes. In other words, when you list with a realtor you are actually listing your home with hundreds or even thousands of agents. This will help your home sell even faster than it could if you were to try to sell it on your own.

You should always ask how much experience the real estate agent has with homes of your value. You will also want to know how the home is going to be advertised and where. You will want to make sure the agent understands the financing aspect of selling your home. If you do not feel comfortable listing with one agent you can choose another one. It is always best to find an agent you have a rapport with. You want to be able to stay in constant communication with your agent to know what is happening with your home. Choosing a real estate agent is not so hard when you know they are trained, licensed professionals dedicated to getting the job done.

All About The Water Heater Replacement | Triple A Gems

There are some facts that a person should think about when it comes to the water heater replacement. First off, the person should remember that H2O heating accounts to about eleven percent of the annual energy cost. Properly replacing the said device will help in saving cost of up to ten percent.

For the savings that the person can acquire, he can properly have this if he sets his heaters to at least 120 degrees instead of the usual 140 degrees. Even if that setting is lower than average, the person should not be able to feel a significant difference with the shower. The plates and other silverware will still be sterilized this way as well.

When replacing the model, it is highly necessary to find a gas model. The gas model may cost more than the electric models but it will definitely allow him to save an amount of up to a hundred dollars in one year when it comes to the energy bill. There are also times when the person will have to consider going solar.

Going solar also has some benefits for the person. There are lots of states which offer financial incentives to those people who are using various solar technologies. People should think about increasing the cost effectiveness of the said device. There are also those tax credits for the solar heating.

Speaking of the tax credits, there is an act that covers this. The act is called the ARRA or the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This will provide the homeowner with at least a thirty percent of tax credit for the new heaters installed. The tax credit item, however, is just applied to those existing homes and not new construction.

There are three points that should be considered when it comes to this. First of all, the cap for the tax credit is 1,500 dollars. This is on the collective elements for home improvement other than the geothermal heat pumps, solar photovoltaic, solar hot water heating, and fuel cell system. Each of the said system should have no cap as well.

There are some exclusions to the said act, though. For example, there are no tax credits applicable to any exterior weatherization improvements. This includes the windows, the doors, and the insulation. If the person will have the said items, he will have to pay for his own costs.

Another point to consider is the cap that was stipulated in the said act. If the person has reached his cap which is 1,500 dollars in the previous year, he will not become eligible for any additional tax credits for that year. This is an important point to consider when it comes to the said act since this will matter in calculating his finances.

He should check out the criteria when it comes to the water heater replacement. It is a must to meet the tax credit requirements for it. By following the requirements, it will surely help him in his finances in the future. His credentials should be enough to meet the requirements as well.

David Fincher Exits 'Cleopatra' With Angelina Jolie; Sony Searches For New Director With Eye On Ang Lee

So, is David Fincher's relationship with Sony in trouble, or does Scott Rudin simply want to get moving on "Cleopatra" starring Angelina Jolie? It remains to be seen where the truth lies, but one thing is certain: David Fincher won't be involved with the film.

The long, long gestating project has seen James Cameron and Paul Greengrass kick the tires over the past couple of years, but things seemed to gain steam with Fincher boarding in?spring of 2011, with "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button" scribe Eric Roth hired to pen a draft by the end of the year. And even in December, Fincher was sharing his vision of the movie, saying it wouldn't necessarily be your standard sword-and-sandals flick. But somewhere along the way, he has left the film.

Could his duties on Netflix's "House Of Cards," where he is both directing and producing be throwing a spanner in the works, perhaps for producer Soctt Rudin, who might want to get this moving (especially since a small-screen incarnation at NBC on the way)? Or could Sony be having some cold feet after the steady but not explosive box office for the expensive "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" which went through a troubled production with Fincher butting heads with executives throughout the process? Or perhaps Fincher really does want to make "The Girl Who Played With Fire" next (even though Sony has said it won't be coming until at least 2014). Whatever the reason, it goes on without him, so who will step in?

According to Vulture, Sony is already looking at a number of options, including Ang Lee (though nothing formal has been started yet). And he's a pretty no-brainer pick at the moment, with his big epic "Life Of Pi" already earning lots of pre-release buzz and Oscar talk, and proving he can do a film on this kind of level. So why not? But as these things usually go, there are likely more names to be talked about in the conference rooms where this movie is being discussed.

Based on Stacy Schiff?s ?Cleopatra: A Life,? the adaptation had a first draft by Brian Helgeland, and unlike the infamous 1963 film with Elizabeth Taylor, this film will be from a distinctly female perspective, delving into the many facets of the historical figure as warrior, strategist, politician and yes, seductress. So it's easy to see the movie potential in this. But whose hands it lands in next remains a mystery.

Postal service gets OK for 'junk mail' discount plan

By Associated Press

The government body that oversees the U.S. Postal Service is approving a plan that gives one of the nation's largest direct marketers a postage discount on advertising flyers.

The three-year deal approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission is intended to boost use of the mail system by Valassis Communications Inc., which sends mass coupon mailings to homes under its RedPlum ad bundles.

The commission said the plan should add $4.7 million to $15.3 million to Postal Service coffers over the course of the deal.

Many of the nation's newspapers oppose the plan, which gives a rate cut to its biggest competitor. The Newspaper Association of America said that for a meager benefit, about $1 billion in annual newspaper industry ad revenue could be put at risk.?

Its forces stretched thin on multiple fronts, President Bashar Assad's regime has significantly increased its use of air power against Syrian rebels in recent weeks, causing mounting civilian casualties. The shift is providing useful clues about the capability of the air force as Western powers consider the option of enforcing a no-fly zone over the northern part of the country. (AP Photo/ Khalil Hamra, File)

(AP) ? The Turkish government blamed a Kurdish rebel group Wednesday for a bomb attack that killed nine people near the Syrian border, amid concerns by ruling party officials that the militants may be developing links with the regime in Syria, and its civil war could have a destabilizing effect on Turkey.

The explosion in the southern city of Gaziantep on Monday followed an escalation in fighting between Turkish forces and the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which had close ties in the 1990s to then Syrian President Hafez Assad ? current leader Bashar Assad's father. Turkey, which seeks the ouster of Assad, is sheltering nearly 70,000 Syrian refugees and has urged the United Nations to set up camps inside Syria for the displaced, a step that would require the intervention of a security force and pose a direct challenge to Syrian authorities.

Some commentators, however, have warned that Turkey misjudged the resilience of the Assad regime and is being pulled into a wider conflict with implications for the most vexing issue on its domestic agenda ? a resolution of the state's conflict with Turkish Kurds who want self-rule in the mostly Kurdish southeast part of the country. The PKK has denied involvement in the Gaziantep blast, which numbered several children among the dead on a Muslim holiday, but Turkish officials, including President Abdullah Gul, cited the group's hand in similar attacks as a sign that it was the likely perpetrator.

"The incident is totally the work of the PKK," said Gaziantep governor Erdal Ata. "Certain information has been attained. It may not be right to share it now, but evidence is being assessed."

Anadolu, Turkey's state-run news agency, said anti-terrorism police detained four suspects in the neighboring province of Sanliurfa on Tuesday. They were taken to Gaziantep for questioning.

The threat of spillover from the Syrian conflict and its sectarian undertones has already been seen in Lebanon, the scene of clashes between supporters and opponents of Assad. It now appears Syrian Kurds are taking advantage of the chaos to take steps toward autonomy. Turkey fears the PKK, which includes many Kurds of Syrian origin, is also moving into the power vacuum there, possibly with the cooperation of regime elements who want to blunt Turkish efforts to dislodge them.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said any alleged link between the PKK and the Syrian regime in the Gaziantep bombing would be investigated, while Huseyin Celik, deputy chairman of Turkey's ruling party, said there were connections between Kurdish rebels and Syrian intelligence.

"The PKK is an organization that is capable of carrying out such an attack on its own, but could it have had supporters in such an attack? It's possible," he said in an interview with Hurriyet newspaper that was published Tuesday. "After all, Assad, acting on the premise that 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend,' is in a tendency to regard Turkey's enemy, the PKK, as its friend. We don't have full information yet, but even if it is a guess, such a link is a probability."

Relations between Turkey and Iran, a supporter of Assad, are strained because they back opposing sides in Syria's civil war. Iran, which also has a Kurdish minority, has fought the Iranian wing of the PKK and in that sense shared a common fight with Turkey, a NATO member that has often conducted air strikes against militant camps in northern Iraq.

But Iran fiercely opposes Turkish backing for the Syrian political opposition and army defectors who organize from the safety of Turkish camps along the Syrian border. A short commentary on Iranian state television earlier this week hinted at a possible link between the Syrian conflict and the blast in Gaziantep, which lies 130 kilometers (80 miles) north of the Syrian city of Aleppo, where regime forces and the rebel Free Syrian Army are battling for control.

"The site of the explosion is close to the Syrian border and Aleppo," the commentary said. "It seems that Syria's trouble is going to sink Turkey, which supported Syria's?turmoil, actively."

A Kurdish political party in Turkey that has been accused of acting as a political front for the PKK also criticized the Turkish government's involvement in the Syrian conflict, saying in a statement Tuesday that it was dragging the country "toward this perilous tide in the Middle East" at the expense of efforts to secure a domestic peace. On Tuesday night, the Gaziantep office of the Kurdish party, Peace and Democracy, was attacked by demonstrators who blamed Kurdish rebels for the bombing. The building's sign and windows were broken before security forces dispersed the crowd.

The government has launched economic initiatives and granted more cultural rights to Kurds while maintaining, along with its Western allies, that the PKK is a terrorist organization. Many in the Kurdish minority, who make up about 20 percent of Turkey's 75 million people, say their grievances have not been fully addressed and that their leaders are vulnerable to prosecution.

In another twist to the long Kurdish conflict, a bus carrying soldiers plunged down an embankment in southeast Turkey on Tuesday, killing 10 people, including nine servicemen. Turkish media said the soldiers were to provide security for a Kurdish politician who planned to visit some of the families of 34 villagers who were mistaken for Kurdish rebels and killed in an air strike in late 2011.

Togo authorities disperse protest with tear gas

Togolese authorities fired tear gas Tuesday to disperse a protest by several thousand people in the capital Lome, the latest such move in the volatile build-up to parliamentary polls expected in October.

The streets of the capital were tense after the demonstrators scattered, with some protesters burning tyres and erecting roadblocks.

Later several hundred people sought to rally in Lome's Independence Square, but were blocked by security forces.

One protest organiser said a number of people were detained and injured, but could not provide figures.

The ministry for security and territorial administration later said in a statement read on television that "10 people were slightly injured including a police officer" and several police cars were damaged.

It was the first of three days of planned protests by Let's Save Togo, a coalition of opposition and civil society groups. Organisers said a new march followed by a sit-in at Independence square would go ahead Wednesday.

"Tuesday's march was stopped by the police. We reschedule it," the group's Claude Ameganvi told a private radio station.

Several previous demonstrations have also been dispersed with tear gas.

The protesters had gathered in Lome's Be neighbourhood and planned to march to the major commercial area of Deckon, which the government declared off-limits to demonstrators and where about 100 police officers were deployed.

The tear gas was fired some 10 minutes after the start of the protest.

"We have recorded several injuries and detentions," Let's Save Togo coordinator Zeus Ajavon told journalists. "We haven't come up with a tally for the time being."

Protesters had earlier pledged to complete the march.

"No one will stop us from going to Deckon," Dodji Amou, a taxi driver who was among the protesters, said before the march began. "The country belongs to all of us."

Last week, the west African nation's government banned street demonstrations in commercial centres, setting up a showdown with the coalition, which had already announced the protests.

Some of the opposition are seeking a delay in the polls to let reforms take effect first, while some also want changes to the electoral code passed by parliament to be repealed on the grounds that they were not made properly.

The government says commercial centres were made off-limits because security and public order were difficult to maintain in such areas, but the opposition have denounced the move as a bid to stifle critics.

While the elections are expected to be held in October, no date has been set.

Togo has been run by the same family for more than four decades. Gnassingbe Eyadema ruled the country for 38 years with an iron fist until his death in 2005.

Shortly after his death was announced his son Faure Gnassingbe was installed as president by the army. He has since won elections in 2005 and 2010.

Ocean ? The Body of Water That Makes Land Inhabitable

Ocean is the body of saline water that occupies the large majority of earth?s hydrosphere. It is divided in to five areas, namely Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Antarctic. The word sea is also used in place of ocean but predominantly, the seas are inland saline bodies of water. 71% of the earth is covered with this vast body of saline water.

The average depth of this massive body of water is 12430 ft and the volume of water you find there is 1.3 billion cubic kilometers. There are 230,000 species of marine life living in the ocean. Since some of the deepest areas of the ocean are not completely explored, the number of species could go up to two million in case these areas also explored properly.

The total mass of water on earth is 1.4X10??Kg. This is only 0.023% of the total mass of earth. Out of all the water present on earth, only 3% is fresh water. The rest is ocean. The bluish color of sea water is due to several contributory factors but the presence of dissolved organic matter and chlorophyll are the main contributors.

Travelling on the surface of oceans dates back to prehistoric times but travel under sea was only possible after the development of modern technology. The deepest spot of the ocean is found close to Marina Islands in the Pacific Ocean. It is estimated to be 10,971 meters deep.

Ocean currents are responsible for climate changes on earth. It also regulates the carbon dioxide content in the atmospheric air. Heat from the tropics to the Polar Regions is transferred through the ocean. While the cold and warm air is transferred to coastal areas from the ocean even the precipitation is brought to coastal areas from the sea.

It is believed that life in this vast body of water started 3 billion years prior to the start of life on land. Fresh water needed for this inland life is supplied through evaporation of water from the sea. The cycle continues in order to sustain life on land.

Ocean is even important for economy. Most of the transportation of goods is done by ships with the use of sea routes. There are ports all over the world to facilitate this process. Even food is supplied by sea by way of fish, crabs, shrimps and lobsters. Catching them and processing has become an important industry for some countries in the world.

Cheap Auto Insurance: Find Cheap Car Insurance In 8 Easy Steps

Everybody wants cheap car insurance, but how do you actually find it? Fortunately, there are several things you can do to lower your insurance costs.

Get alerts before Link and Cramer make every trade

Before you start searching for a bargain-basement policy, remember that sometimes focusing solely on the lowest insurance rates is a mistake. Cutting costs does not make sense if youre also shortchanging quality.

However, with a little research, you should be able to find cheaper auto insurance without sacrificing important coverage amounts. Here are ways to improve your odds of lowering your insurance rates:
1. Comparison shop

Sometimes, youll get the best deal with your current car insurance company. But in many other cases, the road to the cheapest car insurance policy will take you elsewhere.

Comparison shopping can help you uncover cheap car insurance companies and auto insurance discounts. How often should you search for lower premiums? Experts generally suggest looking around at least once a year. Insurance.com offers a rate-search tool that can help you find the best insurance rate.
2. Bundle your policies

Your insurance company may offer more affordable car insurance rates if you purchase both your home insurance and auto insurance policies from the same provider.

Its not unusual to save 10 percent or more off your premium when you receive a multiline discount.
3. Raise your deductible

Simply raising your deductible from $200 to $500 can lower your car insurance premium by about 20 percent, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

Remember, though, that a higher deductible means more money out of your pocket in the event of a claim. Cheap insurance can become expensive fast if you have to pay your deductible with a high-interest credit card.
4. Ask about discounts for which you qualify

Is your daughter a straight-A student? You may qualify for cheaper car insurance. Park your car in a garage? Your insurer may give you a price break because the car is less vulnerable to theft and weather damage.

Moving Home and School | Home Educating Family Association Blog

We recently had the challenge of moving. It was not a planned move, and we only had two weeks? notice, so challenge is the correct word in my opinion!

Thankfully, it was during the summer. We do not ?officially? school during the summer, although a lot of learning takes place. The fact that we were free of formal educating, of course, added in our transition. Here are some things I did before we moved to prepare us for next school year after the move.

  • Remember that living skills are learning skills. My daughter was old enough to help with the move somewhat. She learned how to put boxes together. She helped pack boxes and had to consider how to actually place things in a box and not just toss things in a box! She observed the strategy in packing what you need least first and what you need most last. Life skills are education.
  • I packed all of our homeschool materials together and labeled the boxes?get this?homeschool.? In addition to just packing homeschool materials together, I purposely placed the items I was going to need to start school together in one box. I may not need my copy of Teaching the Trivium or Shepherding a Child?s Heart, but I will definitely want my copy of Spelling Power and The Story of the World.
  • Any usual activities were suspended. Again, this was easier to do because it was the summer. One of the things I really appreciate about educating at home is the flexibility it offers. To be honest, I definitely would have taken some time off even during the school year. During the school year, however, I ideally would have just carried a light load for the few weeks beforehand and then because all the items were packed together, jump back into a light load for a few weeks.
  • Breaks are a necessity. Even if you have more than two weeks to move, taking some breaks during the whole moving process is a necessary distraction. Some plain downtime is necessary, but we also chose to make some of these educational and to say farewell to our area. Visits to our favorite libraries, local parks, and special events were essential.
  • I spent some time researching our new location. I located the closest libraries, zoo, and parks. I looked into some support groups or co-ops in the area. I did not make any commitments or decisions, but I just wanted to know what would be available. It gave me some relief to know some familiar activities could continue with ease.

As I sit here writing, I still have boxes to unpack and d?cor to hang up. We are still sleeping on a bare mattress because I cannot find where I packed our sheets. If my husband needed his pants ironed, I think I could find the iron and board within thirty minutes at least. BUT if I needed to start our school lessons tomorrow, I could do it!

Please share some of the things you have done to help you move your home and school. I would really appreciate more ideas for a future move.Pin It

India must prove Paks role in fanning northeast exodus Foreign Office spokesman

Karachi News.Net Sunday 19th August, 2012

Pakistan's Foreign Office on Sunday asked India to provide Islamabad with proof that people in Pakistan were behind the fanning of an exodus of people from the northeast from across India.

Television channel Times Now quoted Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan, as saying that New Delhi needed to substantially prove the allegation for authorities in Pakistan to take appropriate action, if any.

Khan's reported comment comes a day after India's Home Secretary Raj Kumar Singh categorically stated that Pakistan is the origin of the bulk of SMS and MMS transmissions that prompted the exodus of thousands of people hailing from India's northeastern states to flee from across the country.

Singh clarified that designated intelligence agencies have confirmed this news and also mentioned that this matter would be now taken up with the External Affairs Ministry.

"Bulk of these messages and these clips have their origin in our western neighbourhood in Pakistan. That is what our agencies has discovered that bulk of these have been uploaded in various websites in Pakistan and that shows the thing," said Singh.

Rumours had been circulating that people from northeast India who live in Bangalore-nearly 2,000 miles (3,000 kilometres) -- to the south, are about to be attacked en masse. This is because of violence that flared between Bodo tribes and Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants in the northeastern state of Assam in July.

Singh also said that the photographs, which are being circulated across the country, as victims of ethnic riots were actually the photographs of cyclone and earthquake affected people.

"Number of people whose photographs were being circulated which had photographs of people died in cyclone and they were being portrayed as people who have been killed in violence in Myanmar. The photographs of damage in earthquake and they were being circulated as the houses of minority community damaged in violence in Bodo territorial area districts," said Singh.

Muslims across India have been alarmed by clashes in recent weeks between indigenous people in Assam and Muslim settlers from neighbouring Bangladesh.

At least 77 people have been killed and more than 400,000 are crowded into filthy refugee camps.

As a result of this SMS transmitted to people hailing from northeastern states of India, on Wednesday, almost 6,000 people had booked tickets to Guwahati in Assam.

Consequently intelligence agencies had blocked several websites and restricted bulk messages with an aim to thwart the panic stricken messages and mails.

Singh said that seven people have been identified for spreading rumours across the Bangalore.

"74 such websites have been blocked already. 34 more have been identified by one of the intelligence agencies. Those 34 will also be blocked. Seven people have been identified as having originated or circulating these messages in Karnataka. Out of these three have been arrested and four are being located," said Singh. (ANI)

China's rural migrants key to consumption -government report

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's domestic migrant labor force could power consumer spending growth in the world's second biggest economy if workers had better access to basic welfare services in the cities where they live and work, a new government report says.

The 230 million-strong migrant workforce drives China's economy, but a lack of access to education, health and other services tied to the country's strict household registration - or hukou - system forces massive saving, restraining Beijing's efforts to shift growth's focus to consumption from investment.

"Giving the migrant population living in cities permanent status and giving them equal access to fundamental public services would greatly stimulate China's consumption growth," the National Population and Family Planning Commission said in its latest annual report.

Consumption-driven growth is regarded by many economists as a more stable development model for China than the investment-driven path trodden so far, which the International Monetary Fund says stokes over-capacity and inefficiency.

Beijing sees the rise of consumers as the key driver of growth for a generation to come in the wake of the massive urbanization of the last three decades that lifted an estimated 600 million people from poverty and turned China's export-focused factories into the new workshops of the world.

China's migrant workers in their millions flood into cities each year from the impoverished countryside. They are relatively low paid, but have earned annual double-digit pay rises for years, making them a huge potential source of consumer spending.

Migrant workers spent an average of 56 percent of the salary increases they earned in 2011, according to data in the report.

It showed that monthly spending per capita rose by 230 yuan ($36) in 2011 from a year ago based on average pay increase of 406 yuan to 2,253 yuan a month.

Migrant workers living in any given city for one year spent 1,761 yuan on average, increasing to 2,609 yuan if they stayed for five years or longer, the report said.

The report found only 23.1 percent of Chinese migrants had pension insurance in the city in which they lived in 2011, 13.6 percent of them were covered by unemployment insurance and 64.3 percent had medical insurance.

That forces migrants into massive precautionary saving to pay market rates for services in cities.

City dwellers covered for six basic welfare services typically spend 1.4 times as much as those who are not, the report found.

The report forecasts China will have 250 million migrant workers by 2015, 190 million without access to welfare services.

Some economists say China's pool of low-cost labor is quickly drying up, pushing the country close to a turning point where wages are set for rapid gains.

However, the report said China's labor supply would continue to be abundant with the workforce reaching 885 million in 2050, albeit decelerating from a peak of 1 billion-plus, forecast to arrive in 2016.

Evolutionary increase in size of the human brain explained

Friday, August 17, 2012

Researchers have found what they believe is the key to understanding why the human brain is larger and more complex than that of other animals.

The human brain, with its unequaled cognitive capacity, evolved rapidly and dramatically.

"We wanted to know why," says James Sikela, PhD, who headed the international research team that included researchers from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine and the National Institutes of Mental Health. "The size and cognitive capacity of the human brain sets us apart. But how did that happen?"

"This research indicates that what drove the evolutionary expansion of the human brain may well be a specific unit within a protein ? called a protein domain -- that is far more numerous in humans than other species."

The protein domain at issue is DUF1220. Humans have more than 270 copies of DUF1220 encoded in the genome, far more than other species. The closer a species is to humans, the more copies of DUF1220 show up. Chimpanzees have the next highest number, 125. Gorillas have 99, marmosets 30 and mice just one. "The one over-riding theme that we saw repeatedly was that the more copies of DUF1220 in the genome, the bigger the brain. And this held true whether we looked at different species or within the human population."

Sikela, a professor at the CU medical school, and his team also linked DUF1220 to brain disorders. They associated lower numbers of DUF1220 with microcephaly, when the brain is too small; larger numbers of the protein domain were associated with macrocephaly, when the brain is too large.

The findings were reported today in the online edition of The American Journal of Human Genetics. The researchers drew their conclusions by comparing genome sequences from humans and other animals as well as by looking at the DNA of individuals with microcephaly and macrocephaly and of people from a non-disease population.

"The take home message was that brain size may be to a large degree a matter of protein domain dosage," Sikela says. "This discovery opens many new doors. It provides new tools to diagnose diseases related to brain size. And more broadly, it points to a new way to study the human brain and its dramatic increase in size and ability over what, in evolutionary terms, is a short amount of time."

Make Your Residence Your Dream Property With Simple ...

When I was in the market for a new residence a couple of years ago I was lucky and located just the 1 I was searching for, except that it had a modest kitchen that seemed out of place in what was a nice, big house. It also did not have a covered patio in the backyard, and it was missing a couple of other amenities. I bought the home but knew it required some adjustments and additions, and that I wasnt going to be satisfied with it until I had actually produced it mine. Does that sound familiar? A lot of people reside in homes that are nice, but could be that significantly nicer with just a little operate. And how usually have you seen a residence that looked impressive from the front, but in the back there was? absolutely nothing? That is also bad, as a nicely designed deck can make a enormous difference. I first realized this when I saw incredibly innovative decks and terraces in beach properties on North Carolinas Outer Banks. When I got residence I did some sketches and had a trustworthy builder do a wonderful deck in my own backyard. A deck not only adds to the visual influence of a residence, it also extends the living space. And the skys the limit when it comes to designing and constructing excellent decks. There are other methods to extend living space. For example, I fixed my small kitchen problem by possessing a contractor take out a wall and add a sunroom. It didnt cost really much, but totally transformed not only the kitchen but also my whole property. The kitchen became considerably larger and brighter, and we use the sunroom as a breakfast nook or just for sitting there and enjoying our yard in an open but nicely sheltered atmosphere. It was cash really effectively spent. Pergolas are freestanding garden or attached structures that could link buildings or just define an outdoor space. Pergolas can turn an ordinary yard into an fascinating landscape that provides shade, a spot to sit and appreciate the outdoors, or a spot to grow plants and vines. I had mine built over a hot tub, creating it a wonderful place to unwind and take pleasure in the hot water and a cool breeze. channelingmeditation.com Covered patios are virtually like a covered outdoor room. They provide shade and protection from rain, but do not take away from the outdoor encounter. A excellent contractor can assist you design a covered patio that fits your spending budget and complements your home. The bottom line is that home improvement does not cease at exterior painting, replacement windows, or creating a new look with, for example the rugged and eye-catching Hardie plank siding Ive had my eyes on for a while. Such projects need to have to be completed, of course, but whilst you happen to be at it, take the opportunity to make your dreams come accurate. Rip out that wall and put in a sunroom. Take a very good, long look at your yard and add a multi-level deck or a covered patio. You are going to be considerably happier with your home, and youll boost its worth. Its actually a win-win predicament.
